I’m sure if you’re here you’ve got Ulcerative Colitis or you know someone close to you who does. And you are looking for an Ulcerative Colitis Cure.
What is important to know is that there is no real “Cure” for UC or Crohn’s Disease or any Irritable Bowel Disease or Syndrome for that matter.
There are many different types of these diseases. Nuances if you will and the total number is around 100. Because every body is different and one medicine may work well for one person and not at all for another.
While other things are a nice blanket treatment protocol like corticosteroids in the form of prednisone for example.
Why Is There No Real Ulcerative Colitis Cure?
Fantastic question and the first one I asked my original Medical Doctor.
“How do I get rid of this, or am I stuck with it for the rest of my life?” His response was a shoulder shrug and those eyes of “I regret to inform you… you’re screwed.”
Though there is no true cure for ulcerative colitis and anyone purporting ulcerative colitis cures is someone to be watched out for, what really will happen is a UC “cure” in the form of long term remission of symptoms.
Speaking from personal experience, when I first was sick with this IBD nightmare, I had what they call acute ulcerative colitis. I did not treat my UC for about 8 months and then I bit the bullet, got blood tests and colonoscopy and got the diagnosis as well as heavy prescription list that only grew with time.
This was after I had already self diagnosed and started to cut things out of my diet while incorporating several other personally discovered holistic interventions to no avail which included:
- Apple cider vinegar by the ounce
- Chiropractic Adjustments
- Cutting out Gluten and other starches
- Going completely Alkaline – all greens and healthy fats only
- Enemas of different sorts
- Not eating for a few days (never do this)
- Increasing Sleep
- Stopping ALL Exercise – which helped in some respects – I was an avid crossfitter at the time and I am now back at it
- Meditating – I suggest this, it’s awesome!
- Mentally focusing on not being sick
- Spoke affirmations from the toilet – yes I did this, I would have done anything to be healthy again
As you can see, those were interesting. And the whole time I was thinking what are the cures for ulcerative colitis and how does it work?
What Is An Ulcerative Colitis Cure?
Stopping UC, Crohn’s and other inflammatory bowel diseases involves ceasing inflammation in your body.
The key thing to understand here is that the chemical make up of your blood is out of whack when you’re inflamed. Severely out of whack. And THAT aspect of your health is fixable in some way.
Fixable because your body wants to be in human homeostasis. A kind of equilibrium where you are healthy and functioning at an optimal rate. And this is SUPER IMPORTANT to understand!
An inability to maintain homeostasis may lead to death or a disease, a condition known as homeostatic imbalance. For instance, heart failure may occur when negative feedback mechanisms become overwhelmed and destructive positive feedback mechanisms take over. Other diseases which result from a homeostatic imbalance include diabetes, dehydration, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, gout and any disease caused by the presence of a toxin in the bloodstream. Medical intervention can help restore homeostasis and possibly prevent permanent damage to the organs. – Wikipedia
Your body wants to be healthy and work well. It doesn’t want to feel all arthritic, inflamed, anemic or loaded with pharmaceutical crap. So your ulcerative colitis cure is available to some degree.
Natural herbs and supplements help and are what will push your condition into remission.
So… Ulcerative Colitis Can’t Be Cured? – nah…
The most important thing to understand is that this disease does is go into remission and can stay there.
As healthline.com says here in their semi insane way of explaining things;
The disease has a relapsing-remitting course, which means that the patient will suffer from symptoms such as cramping and bloody diarrhea, but then have periods without symptoms. Using currently available medications, medical treatment attempts to increase the amount of time between flare-ups and make flare-ups less severe. Unfortunately, there is no medical cure for ulcerative colitis. In fact, the only known cure for ulcerative colitis is to surgically remove part or the entire colon.
There can be flare ups and mishaps when you eat the wrong foods or when stress and environmental factors are present. But other than that this is a manageable disease.
Note: An Ulcerative Colitis Cure Is Not Getting Your Colon Removed!
You don’t have get your colon cut out and a bag attached to your side, in my opinion.
Colectomy and other invasive procedures should be an absolute complete last resort!
What some doctors will tell you is that you can come to a medicated state of normalcy. And by medicated they mean pharmaceuticals consumed 2-3 times daily. Up to 9 to 15 different pills, solutions pumped up your ass all to achieve some “Normalcy.”
That is not normal, at all.
So to that I said no thanks. I said no thanks as soon as I heard it, and it took me 3 more years to figure out how to not suffer forever.
Do not make that same mistake like I did. Make a move to get better and do so quick!
How Do You Cure Ulcerative Colitis With Remission?
What a Naturopath will tell you is that you can get to a healthy state that requires maintenance. It might not be hard to maintain that healthy state but it will need some mindful maintenance none the less.
So we’ve established that you don’t just cure this disease. You can knock the hell out of it and put it in remission through specific personalized interventions. You do this by using herbs and actual testing of what is going on in your blood.
The major key here is that you go to a Naturopathic doctor, an ND, not an MD. The difference is astounding.
A Naturopath is going to give you specific tests to see what is going on in the body. Finding out what chemical levels are out of whack in the blood. This is important because the blood, the inflammation and antibodies are the culprit here.
Your gut is being effected by the inflammation in your blood. That’s why we get the whole list of symptoms:
- Mouth Sores
- Joint Paint
- Skin Eruptions
- Degredation of the immune system – from steriods and pharamceuticals mainly
- Chronic Fatigue
- Bloody Stools/Mucus in Stool
- Fever like crazy
- Abdominal Pain, left side or all over the place
- and many more…
With these chronic illnesses of the autoimmune type, systemic inflammation is the culprit. I keep saying this because it makes sense and was the cause of my illness. It is also identifiable through specific tests and can be addressed with direct action.
Systemic inflammation is why some people get an colectomy and then still have colitis. And then the doctor says “the colitis is in the bag.”
You’re kidding me right? That’s a sick joke and you’re now going to help this person, aren’t you?
Well that’s not the case unfortunately. That MD is not going to be able to help even though they may think they are and really want to help in the end.
I remember my Naturopath talking to me about people having their entire colon removed. And STILL suffering from IBD after the resectioning and removal process.
I had complete shock as my response. I knew in my gut it was the truth and I knew it could be me with the same outcome. When I went to the Gastroenterologist MD for the last time, he gave me two options:
- Go on Humira – a biologic (nightmare of a medicine, that “does everything”)
- Get my colon removed through resectioning
Because balsalazide disodium, axathioprine, prednisone and mesalamine enamas did not work.
My response (in my head): “Excuse me? Are you seriously going to give me an ultimatum that I will go on injectable TNF blockers or get my colon cut out of me?”
I kindly excused myself from his office. Never to return.
There are people who have more serious conditions such as the one depicted below. I was not at this point yet. Pancolitis such as this is a ruthless disease of inflammation and autoimmune dysfunction.
Ulcerative Colitis Cures – Remission
How do we stop the inflammation that is causing all this in the first place?
Many doctors say these diseases aren’t a one or two types fits all. How to cure IBD or IBS are two different things. There’s differences between Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, ischemic colitis, and irritated bowel.
What this means is that you need personalized medical care. You need a doctor that will not prescribe just a pill to see how it works, and then another if that first one didn’t work.
And face it, prednisone works on everyone! In some way. Hopefully if you’re early enough and lucky enough, you can hit it with the steroid and you get your gut back in line.
But who really wants to take steroids?
The Plan: What To Do To Combat Your IBD and Cure It In Some Way
Once you got the naturopath, you do this:
- Tell them everything – and I mean everything. There could be something in the details that speeds up your recovery incredibly
- Take the tests – it isn’t cheap. Tests are sometimes thousands of dollars. Only some are covered by insurance. Just do it; poop in the cup, get your blood drawn, fill out the insurance forms, get the results
- Get the directives based on the actual information – This is cool. You will see the test and know what is actually happening inside your blood
- Follow directives to a T – Do not screw around here. It will only prolong everything and you’ve suffered long enough. This will be long term
- Stick with it – I kept poop journals, meditated, cried, slept every afternoon, lost everything. I don’t want you to suffer like that, so stick with it and feel the results
- When you start to feel better – stick with it more, and celebrate the changes. Pay attention to your body and the reduction of bathroom visits. The lessening of the pain, the mood enhancements and celebrate any wins
- Stay positive if you experience a Flare Up – Flares happen. You might feel great for a while and think you need less herbs or you don’t need that $800 3rd follow up blood test. Go do it! Don’t screw around with your life, stop the suffering now
Wrapping It Up
**After a year of following the diet and taking the herbs, see if you can reduce dosages. Under the supervision of your Naturopath.
**Ask lots of questions throughout the entire process. tI you get a rash, if you have a weird reaction to an herb, if you feel like it’s not working tell the doctor. They email and they take calls. Tell them. They want you to actually get better and be healthy.
I thought so too when he told me “I want you having a normal bowel movement within 3 months.” Mind you I hadn’t had a normal bowel movement in over 3 years! So it was exciting to hear something only a UC sufferer would experience joy from.
Normal Bowel Movements and an type of Ulcerative Colitis Cure that actually does something like cure you.
Remember This: There is nothing more important than your health so do everything you can to maintain it.
Do not Give Up!
